East Timor

Our heart to serve disadvantaged girls and women in East Timor continues. You may remember we started some training there with a group of girls several years ago. Since then, there have been some changes to the focus of Casa Vida and we have been seeking the best way forward to continue training. We are currently in discussions with an organisation called Pro Ema in Dili.

Simone Assis who was running Casa Vida during our first visit, is now the CEO of a new training organisation In Dili by the name of Pro Emma. https://www.facebook.com/proema.timorleste/
Pro Ema are successfully running a restaurant that is skilling women and can cater for girls once they have left Casa Vida or other care organisations.

Simone believes that she is now in a position to add Hairdressing Training to her organisation and we are currently in discussion with her and the EmpowerAid board to determine the way forward. We  believe  the work that Simone is doing to empower and protect young girls and women in East Timor is very much in line with Empoweraid's mission and vision, and that Simone and her staff would be wise regarding the care and safety of volunteers.
We are hopeful that the first of a series of visits will commence with a team heading there in January.
