Wyndham Action

Jen Dunkley has been involved with this project for a number of years and travelled to Wyndham to help out Bianca who owns the local store...

"This was my first extended visit to the far north. I came to support Bianca while she was doing her revision and assessment for her Certificate 3 in Hairdressing, running the Wyndham General Store and being the local Lotto lady. For the population of approximately 600, it’s the only store in the area, selling everything from gas, phones, clothing and cool drinks to jewelry and toys. From booking bus tickets to pumping up the local kids footy, the days were full of variety. It wasn’t all work - I did get whisked off to Kununurra for a treat weekend with Jennifer and Jonelle, enjoying a bus and boat tour of Lake Argyle and the Ord River with Jonelle. Such amazing vast countryside we have and arrived back in town just in time for a majestic Kimberly sunset. We also enjoyed a late afternoon horse ride at Diggers Rest Station, the property where a lot of the movie "Australia" was filmed. Following wine and cheese served by the boab trees, the ride back to the homestead in light rain in the dark will be a lasting memory. Also one to remember - getting up at 4am for the Anzac Day sunrise service on top of the Bastion Five Rivers Lookout, 330 metres above sea level with the backdrop to Wyndham. Stunning!!
Both girls are continuing their work experience, Bianca starting her Jaru Girl Salon in the Store on Saturdays in Wyndham and Debbie ordering products for her Home salon in Halls Creek as well. We wish them all the best. Go Girls!"
