3 Trips to Timor Leste now done and dusted!!
Following the initial trips in April and June, the third team for 2019 headed to Dili in September for 10 days.
The students did some initial learning before they arrived through tutorials Jennifer prepared and sent online. Then a team of 3 headed over for intensive training and practical workshops. These trainers work so hard while they are there - Abbey Pryde returned for the second time this year and was ably assisted by Stella Jones who has travelled to Bangladesh to train previously. They were accompanied by Meena Benjamin who has previous connections with Timor Leste and was able to be a hugely valuable support team member.
Great progress was made and the girls are poised to begin workplace opportunities in the near future. One has actually already entered into full time employment!!
"What an incredible opportunity I've had being a part of the Empoweraid team and delivering such a practical gift to young women in need of support for there future!
I am so appreciative that I was able to meet and teach all the students in Timor Leste these hairdressing skills that they can put into use straight away to provide income for themselves and there families!
I’ve come back to Australia with such gratitude for the many things that we take for granted such as the quality of life, access to hospitals and the opportunity and government support! We are richer than we realise, and going on these trips to teach other women in countries like Timor Leste and Bangladesh, are a great reminder that!
I also love that all around the world, even with the language barrier, love, kindness and laughter are still translated. It’s so amazing to connect the women and support them to which they are so grateful for the opportunity to learn and connect with us!
